Engine Noise
I know this question would be better suited in the tech help, but nobody looks at that so I'll ask here first. I recently acquired a 2001 dodge neon se and I did an oil change on it and after the change I noticed a ticking noise. I have done some researching and have found out it may be many different things, what I was wondering is if it could be some deposits caught some where in an oil passage so a lifter or something isn't getting enough oil. It has a little over 100,000 on it. The noise is not very loud and is barely audible at idle, but is most obvious after the engine is revved and the engine speed is slowing down. I unfortunately do not have a tach so I don't know what speed, but I would say around 1500 rpms down to idle it is louder. I tried using a stethoscope (screwdriver) to find where the noise is coming from and found nothing. Also the noise is there all the time, doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold.
