Default 2000 chevy venture

Okay so my mom has a venture and it overheated. now we know that the head gasket is shot and also the water pump. the shop we took it to is very reputable and they say it will cost $1200 to replace the water pump, head gaskets and flush the system. and another 400 bucks if the heads are shot and need to be machined / replaced. its a 2000 and it has 128,000 miles on it and the transmission shifts hard sometimes. Do you guys think it is worth it to fix it? or should she get rid of it and buy a new car?

From past experience with an overheated engine, IMO get rid of it. It will never be the same if you dont rebuild the complete engine you will definatley have more problems down the road, and cost more money.

your heads should be fine... however the van is only worth about $2800 and the transmission is going. Id say if she can afford to get a new car i would and sell the car for parts or sell it to the junk yard. It seems its at the point that everything is starting to go its going to be one thing after another.
