Default HELP!!! need new engine

ok so my 03 neon sxt only has 49,000 miles on it and it has extreme engine knocking. if it keeps up like this i will soon have a blown engine on my hands. i am extremely disapointed because i paid $8,000 for the vehicle 1 year ago. i still have $4,500 to go on the loan. my mechanic said that i can either rebuild the engine or get a salvage one put in costing me $1,100 and 10 hours labor which would end up costing me a total of around $1,900 with a 3 year warranty. im prolly gunna end up having them put in the engine so i can get the warranty n that way i wont bother doing it myself... what i dont understand is that even tho i take fairly good care of the vehicle it still seems to go to ****. chrystler has lost my respect. i guess MOPAR = NO CAR. any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. my mechanic is also a really good friend n is already giving me a discount, so other places i would end up paying alot more.

Apparently you either got a lemon or did something to your engine because i've never heard of anyone's motor only lasting that long. By the way MOPAR=MORE POWER.

Sounds like you got a bad car. It happens with ALL brands. Every once in a while there is a bad car out of many. Either that or like others have said, you didn't maintain your car. But it sounds more like the first instance that you just got a bad car to begin with....

If you bought it used, and the person before didn't maintain it, I fail to see how that could be any manufacturer's fault?
