Plus you would be at 150ish hp and its nothing fancy but even in my car an intake and exhaust just make it more fun to drive and noone ever said opening it up on the highway every once an awhile hurt anyone.
150hp out of a base neon?

The R/t was rated at 150 at the crank but at the wheels it probs makes 135 with an minor bolt ons such as CAi (which doesnt get maybe 1-2hp) and exhaust which is about 4hp.

A reg neon is 132 and stock ones have been dyno'd to the wheels about 105 for atx to 112 for mtx.

For the OP. I would go with an 00-02 since you dont have the burden of dealing of the NGC computers in the 03+ neons since it learns your mods and changes spark and fuel to prevent from changing the mpg or emissions.

All neons are pretty reliable not just 03 plus. The MTX is better on gas than the atx

Some neons suffer from some weird MPG issues, mine included and a few others I know. It's still better than an SUV, but I don't see 30's. Ever.

That's because you have to keep your foot out of the gas

im pretty sure some of you are full of crap or you dont figure your MPG correctly.

to the OP, you will get the best MPG on the highway if you stay under 2500 RPM's. MPG drops like a rock over that. you should expect 30+ MPG on average city/highway, depending where you live. some of these guys live in the midwest where there are no hills and get real good MPG and others like me live in the east where we have hills to contend with. so depending on where you live and how you drive will determine your specific results.

if you have cash look on craigslist or similar place and find a smokin deal on a late model neon. i see tons of older folks around here driving neons and think you should find an older person to buy from. dont believe the dealer when they say it was owned by a little old lady...LOL BS. so if you buy from a private party you can see who was driving the car. dont buy from a young person, or you will end up with a piece of crap.

you should be able to buy a real nice 03+ for 6k or less.

Here is the secret for sweet mileage...55-60mph + cruise control = high 30's to even low 40s at time. Figuring out mpg is easy, unless you can't do math.
