Default Replacing a blower motor ASAP

My girlfriend has a 2000 Neon, and it's a good little car I guess. I don't drive it, it's a little small for me. 90k miles, just replaced the alternator. Walmart stripped the bolt to the oil pan awhile back and we got that replaced. Besides that, it's a good commuter.

For months the blower motor fuse would blow randomly. The moulding around the windshield was jacked up and would leak water to the inside. It kept shorting out the blower motor, and it figures - now its cold and needs to be replaced.

I hooked up the new motor I got from Advance and it works great. I think it was missing like 2 of the speeds anyway so it was time.

The problem: HOW in the world do I get the new motor on? The new motor came with simply a small motor with a ground and hot wire coming from it. The old motor has the black plate around it plus the large plastic fan blade thing. How in the world do I get the plastic thing off without breaking it?

This costed almost $75 from Advance with a lifetime warranty. I'm willing to goto the junk yard, pay a couple dollars, and get the whole unit.

The only bolts I see to remove are under the plastic fan and I cannot get to it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The Haynes manual says:

All Models: Remove the circlip from the fan and separate the fan from the blower motor frame.

Sounds like there's just a snap ring in the very center of the front face of the fan holding it onto a blower motor shaft. I don't know how large this thing is, but it looks small. I'd just try a very small screw driver (maybe even eye-glass-repair sized) to pull off that snap ring, and don't lose it.

This is all without ever seeing the assembly, just going by Haynes manual. Hope it helps.

There should be links to the Dodge Manuals if you do some searching...

I did plenty of searching on a 28.8k dialup connection and I grew frustrated, hence why I created a DodgeForum.com account and asked a question.

Thank you very much for describing that to me. I'm going to check it out tonight.

I decided to call the yard and have one pull and test it for me. It'll be the whole unit, and in the long run it'll save me about $45 after I return the new unit back to Advance Auto.

No, search in this forum for them...

I understand your dial-up pain though!

UPDATE:

I got the blower motor last night from the yard. Keep in mind, it's like 1/8th of a mile away from my house

Plugged the "new" end into the connector, tested to make sure all the speeds work correctly and it didn't blow the fuse. Then, installed the three PITA screws around the plate. Works great!

Thanks for your time.
