Default Cruise Control Problems

I don't do a lot of highway driving so I don't use the cruise control all that often so I don't know how long this has been going on but here is my story:

Yesterday I tried to use the cruise control. While I was driving I pushed the button to turn it on but CRUISE never lit up on the odometer. This morning I tried the cruise again but this time pushed the button before I started driving the car and CRUISE lit up just fine and stayed on. I got to a stretch of road where I was the only car and decided to cruise and make sure it works and sure enough it does work. I come to a light and have to make a turn so I deccelerate and CRUISE goes off. I make the turn and accelerate again and try to activate the cruise control but again the CRUISE will not luminate and I can't engage cruise mode.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Where do I look to try to fix this problem?

I'm wondering if I have an electrical problem somewhere because a couple months ago I had a Camshaft Position Sensor Malfunction and I replaced the sensor. Ever since I replaced the sensor now I have Camshaft Position Sensor Intermittent. Any chance these two issues are related? Am I better off taking my car in to the dealer or repair shop and having them look over the electrical instead of doing it on my own?

Any advice/recommendations on the cruise issue and the electrical issue would be great appreciated.

Thanks!

check some hoses, In the back. I know manny's cruise didn't work and the hose was cut.

check the vacuum lines that go to and from a little black box that is directly above the ignition coil & valve cover... one of them is either broken or loose... that should solve the problem... keep us posted

I have a similar problem actually But mine never works and shows up on the guage cluster if I turn it on then off and dont leave it on.

I think there is only 3 or 4 things involved with cruise control on a neon.

1) Throttle position - There is a cable that runs to your throttle body and back to the cruise control cylinder

2) The cylinder itself - Recieves speed signal from computer then must open a valve to move cylinder to specific point to maintain certain speed(The throttle cables moves with it). I think it's run off a vacuum line cause there is no fluids involved.

3) The computer - Reads signal from speedo and or rpms and manages the signal to the cruise control cylinder/module(Also sends signal to gauge cluster). If there is any discrepency or short anywhere you shouldn't get a light in the guage cluster.

4) Vacuum lines? - I think(But don't quote me) they might actually be positive pressure and the line comes right off the back of the valve cover. Like I said don't quote me cause I'm not 100 percent sure.

So...if it works once in a while it shouldn't be your cable. Just check it when the car is off there should be some slack in it right after the throttle body(The cylinder is on the firewall on the middle/passenger side and the cable runs right over your intake).

That leaves the computer/cylinder or module/Vacuum lines.

If it was your comp My guess is a CEL would come on and if not you might want to run codes anyways.

It's hard to tell if the module/cylinder is working properly without using special tools or replacing it with a known working one...so try and leave it to last.

Vacuum lines. if it's run from either the valve cover or intake manifold it's probably full of crap. Pull them off, blow on them and obviously see if there is clog somewhere.

I was pulling off my front bumper to do some fiberglass work and I just happened to come across a vacuum reservoir underneath the windshield fluid bottle that had been broken from the previous driver. It's full of dirt and water and I'm sure this isn't good...and it runs right to and past my cruise cylinder so I'm 100% sure this is MY problem.

Try checking that out as well, the original bumper had no damage that would point to that being broken and I never even knew it was down there so take a look for good measure.
