Default new guy needs help

first want to say Hi. I'm new to the neon crowd (but not dodge), i have been racing h22 and z6 turbo delSols for about 8 years now , but i recently sold all of them and picked up a 2002 sohc neon with some srt4 parts on it . ..

my question is, i have a stratus 2.4L in the garage , so i was told when he gave it to me with the car .. I have searched high and low and found nothing about this engine except by those installing them into a first gen neon..

I need to find out some info pretty quick because this fresh rebuilt engine i have in the car seems to have a rod knock . .. i couldn't tell at first because the alternator was squeaking and locked up on the car yesterday shredding the belt .. but now that i have that noise out of the way , i can hear a rod knock above the crazy loud exhaust and its leaks .

what do i need to put the stratus 2.4l into my 02 neon ?? i am quite mechanically inclined and if i had the right parts i'm sure i could do it in a day . i just need to know some specifics ... like ecu swaps , wiring harness modifications , and so forth .

thanks for the help. looking forward to boosting again soon ! !

Jeff

Just about everything is the same. The outside block dimensions are the same, your tranny will bolt right up. You would need to get the wiring harness from that year stratus or just modify your own, you would also need to get the afx pcm (howell performance), This is if the motor is sohc, if its dohc you may need more. Also what year stratus?

ill have to search the block for some identification . it is just a block and head, no intake or exhaust on it , no transmission...

this kid put some srt4 injectors on the car as well. it seems to be running super rich and running very slow for what it should be .. i have some work ahead of me on this car but i know it will pay off. already dericed it and started rewiring everything that was hacked up. car handles great with srt4 shocks and eibach springs .. i just need to get it moving now lol.

You may also need the motor mounts, I'm not too sure if they are the same, also what color is your key to your neon? if its black you don't have skis system, so you can definately do the sway if its gray you will have problems. They have to be oem keys to be able to tell.

hmmm dohc might cause some problems, I'm not to sure about this but you may need the pcm, engine and engine bay harness, from that range of year straus. You will also need a way to control the spark and fuel like the aem unit. It is possible to do the swap but it will take some research and some money to do it.

Edit: I believe their is a person on 2gn that did this same exact swap, let me see if I can find him or a thread about his swap.

I found a good bit of info on 2gn.
realistically the easiest way to get a 2.4 running in a 00-02 neon.
srt-4 side motor mount bracket, keep your current transmission, upgrade to a stronger clutch - pt clutch at least, 2.0 dohc intake manifold, dohc exhaust manifold of some sort - preferably longtube header.

get 24 lbs injectors. your car already has a 58 psi regulator.
get a s-afc or MS to tune the car, probably not required b/c the fuel maps in the 00-02 PCM are made for a 58 psi regulator with 19 lb injectors.
so the 24's should be okay with mild mods.
you might have to step up to 26 or 30 lb'ers if you do massive bolt-ons (ie, cams!)

get the pt cruiser ps, alternator, and a/c brackets.

use your current engine wiring harness.
change the cam positioning sensor over to a dohc setup (if they are different, maybe change length)
swap outer wires on the coilpack.
move the injector wiring over 1, etc....
extend the coolant temp sensor plug.
maybe mess with the TPS and IAC wiring length.
that's should be about it, shouldn't be much different than doing it in a 1st gen.

my guess is that it's easier b/c the engine bay actually houses a 2.4 from the factory.
courtesy of GT neon on 2gn.
