Unhappy Broken Cam

New here and need some insight on my 05 Neon SXT. It died the last week on the way to work. Got it restarted ran like **** and CEL was flashing at me. Pulled codes and had some stuff for Cam sensor. Replaced that and still had codes, figured it was the timing belt. Pulled it apart and it was still in time, started looking harder and found the cam was broke in half between cylinder #2 & #3. Clean break with no signs of wear on any part of the cam. Has N/e one else seen this happen or know what might have caused it? I need this car back, my 1st gen cummins doesn't ride quite as nice.

I have saw cams bend and warp under stress, but never break... especially a clean break... the only thing i can think of bro is the cam was weak when the car was put together... maybe a peice of **** factory work sawed it almost completely in half before it was installed in the car...

Sadly there are people out there that does gay **** like that...

Anyways man, just put another cam in, its always great to buy new parts, but if your a cheap *** like me, when it comes to solid parts like that, just get them outta a junk yard, just make sure its not too worn.. but hey if you got the money to burn, get a new one.

you shouldnt have any problems with a new one, like i said, i think the cam you had was very faulty to begin with before it was even installed in your car... youll be fine, just put another one in...

good luck bubby

I would also check the valves by removing the head, just to make sure you didn't bend any of them.. I have never heard of a Cam breaking in half before.. very unusual. GL and let us know if we can help out any more.. BTW this is your chance to upgrade to Crane Cam #12, 14 or 16.

Cood Luck

I figured this wasn't a common thing, I already taled to the dealer I bought this car from and they recommended I talk to the warranty clerk. I am going to try for some of the money back, not sur how much but a little bit is better than nothing.

If I go with an aftermarket cam what one should I get? This is my DD so I just want a little more power and some extra economy would be nice also. And as long as I am going through all the hassle what else should I put on here? I was thinking doing a TB from an auto car, and doing some gasket and port matching. Anything else that would be good for a few ponies, that I can do on the cheap?

Well, since Ma Mopar won't help me out, I just went and found a used one. I got a complete cylinder head with valve, rockers, cam, gear, and sensors. So I should have it running by Thurs. night. I will try to get some more pics of the cam still in the head, and of the piece I pulled out. Thanks for the info guys,
