Question Transmission Issue

Alright new to the site, but have an issue and cant figure it out. have an 01 neon SE, well when reversing sometimes or trying to go from reverse to drive when i hit the gas it revs up, then catches and jerks you forward, only sometimes for a couple seconds and then catches. Any thoughts would help tons. Only does it trying to grab first gear and trying to reverse sometimes.

When i switch from reverse to drive it takes about 2 seconds to change but that seems normal with most cars, if it is engaged but slips when in gear that's a different story, how many miles? A transmission fluid and filter change could help if not done. If the temperature is cold outside the tranny will not shift quickly and shifts can be harsh and the overdrive will not engage until the fluid temperature reaches a certain temp.

Well, it does it when you put it into reverse, no matter how long you let it set when you throw it into reverse or drive it still does that, it just revs and then catches, its more then a standard two seconds. It is cold outside but ive never seen a tranny do that before, even my 03 1.8t jetta didnt do that.

Well my guess is your killing your tranny from doing reverse to drive and giving it too much gas. You are suppose to come to complete stop then put in drive and wait for the tranny to grab then go not rev it up while waiting so that it slams it. Automatics don't like reverse to drive or neutral to drive slams. Neither do half shafts and motor mounts.

It sounds like the switch valves in the valve body are sticking.

Could be a number of things.

You DO have to shift properly...I have seen TONS of people who don't STOP when they shift from Gear to gear(ATX). If you do that you wear out your tranny 10x more then if you didn't do that.

SOMETIMES low tranny fluid can do this, and also High tranny fluid. Or a problem with your valve body. Or your tranny hasn't seen a new filter in a while and it's simply restricting flow.

Start with a tranny flush with new filter and ATF+4 fluid only. If you don't know how to do this properly get a mechanic to do it. If it still does it, I would recomend a tranny rebuild.
