Default i need some help with engine and tranny..

ok, so i just got a text from a friend of mine with a neon, he may have a tranny and a engine that is off of a 96 se.... what EXACTLY is the difference between the two blocks and trannys?? trannys i know are a different gear ratio, but i need specifics... can i use a first gen block in my 02? is it just a matter of changing sensors? what will i need to get this to run propberly? or even can i get it to work properly? i can get them both very cheap..... all i want them for is to get the block built and tranny built for my car...

both cars are a sohc

need some help fast guys!!

thanks again

they are the same the as far as the block goes the head has egr hole you gonna have too block that of since 2002+ did not have any egr system.

Why do you wanna swap I does the 2gn have motor in it because it will make it easy just transfer every thing that is different too the new block.

I am looking for a motor to get built over the summer, along with tranny... my head fit, just like u said i just made a block off plate(that i have had for years)... but if i can get a really cheap *** engine and tranny i will get them for spares so i can send them to a shop to have the bottom end built, and the tranny able to hold 400whp over the summer, and just swap next winter...

my car is only running about 230 hp now and i am looking to get 400whp out of it, but i want to just get the block built so i can swap them out and be done... same with the tranny..........

any idea if a eclipce dohc 96 engine is the same as our blocks? i have one of those as well at my house???? i got that for free with a blown head gasket?? all new internals are going back into what ever block i go with?

the 1st gen MTXs are weaker then the 2nd gens i've heard... so idk why you'd want to swap it for an older one.....

if you are turbo don't do a r/t tranny the ratios are just too short. It is pain too drive. Unless you auto-x alot.
I would just use first gen block and scrap the head and try too find 2gn r/t head they are not that much if you buy the bare with no valve train.

also what do you want too do too the tranny. because 1st gen and 2hn gen bell housing are different but they can be swaped out. but I would not mess with tranny except too do a lsd the stock tranny can hold that kinda power. spend that money on axles they will go way before the tranny will

well i am not going to scrap a 1500 dollar head... lol, my head is built already..... been built for about three - four years now.. i was unaware of the bell housing issue with the trans, i will look for a second gen tranny... i will need to get the tranny built at some point, i would guess a stock trans are not built for 400hp, i dont want to put one in it every week... lol i will be fine this year with the 250 hp, but not after next year.... do u really know that a stock tranny can hold 400whp???? i would think it would never hold that much power??? i am not 100% sure what i am going to do to the tranny to make it stronger, i have a few people to call first about it...

any thoughts on the eclipse block i have in my garage? i always thought that the blocks were the same from a eclipse to a first gen neon??? so if they do swap with a second gen wouldnt it work also???

the blocks are the same, the trannys have differention 2nd gear ratios...

Personally what i would do, get the engine and tranny, pull your tranny and put the 1st gen in, and have your 2nd gen tranny built because you would appreciate the 2nd gear top end way better. just the the first gen tranny for a make-do till you get the motor and tranny finished

build the first gen block, because they are pretty much the same, and use your head so you dont have to do any wiring mods to allow for the egr system... and then if you want to get your head ported and such, that wont take long to do, im sure you could live without your neon for that long at least lol

but this is just a suggestion.
