my love/hate relationship with my sunroof
So, yesterday my sunroof decided to get stuck part way open (like the back is up maybe an inch and a half). It looks like it is on the track but the passenger side front looks lower than the driver side front and it doesn't move at all when the button is pressed unlike the driver side. I had a friend try to help me push/pull a lil to see if it were just stuck on the corner like it looks but when we got it past that it still wasnt working.
Sooooooooo, my idea (because i cant think of anything else that I personally can do) is to take off the glass if that is possible and see what i find. I'm assuming if I take off the screws that I see, that something will happen to move etc. My concern (which is why i'm typing this) is that I might potentially mess something up and make my sunroof leak again (it leaked when I first got it and by playing with the screws it would leak more or less o.o). Any advice with this? It's suppose to thunderstorm this afternoon so i'd like to be able to keep my Neon from leaking.

ok, sunroof has been removed. passenger side does NOT want to budge. I cant get the driver side to go back to the closed position however (that way the sunroof could just be closed and not leak...). Where do I go from here?
lol, this just keeps getting more amusing. I found why the passenger side wouldnt move (it was stuck on a "warped" piece, so I did some adjusting and it now moves. My problems is now that when the passenger side gets to the front when i try to close it, the driver side (which is not in sync w the passenger side) stops moving and when it goes back like I am trying to open it and the driver side hits the end, the passenger side stops moving. How do I get them in sync with each other?
OKAY. Well, I have solved my own problem. I took my car to a guy I know and he told me that the motor might be loose. Tightened it up after manually pushing the slider back down and all is well in the world. I'm tickled to death that I could do that myself instead of having someone else charge me for something so simple.

As a prewarning, the sunroof might not shut if you do get it open at this point. I'd start by taking the sunroof glass off and looking at the track to make sure that nothing is out of place, etc. I believe there were 6 bolts holding mine on. You might want to play with opening and shutting the sunroof now so you can see the sunroof tracks in action (but dont open it too far!). If everything looks good with the tracks then its time to look at the motor (which by the grinding sound it working much harder than it should). That means that you are taking the interior of the car apart. Have no fear as this is very easy. Everything just unscrews, unplugs, or pops off. The motor is located above the rearview mirror up in the roof. So you need to take off things that will prevent you from getting to it (like the Oh**** handles, the peice that holds on the liner, the window shades, the front pillars, etc). I did enough that I could see the motor when I pulled the lining down a lil but not enough that it would be a pain to put things back together. I wasnt sure what I was looking for but the guy I took my car to saw the motor was slightly crooked (making it pull harder on one side which made my sunroof go sideways) and we tightened up a bolt.
It's more or less using some common logic as you address the problem. Hopefully yours is something simple and you wont have to play with the motor for the sunroof. When you do get it fixed I recomend some powdered graphite be sprinkled on your tracks for lubrication though. Hope that helps a lil bit at least
