Smile Help me rebuild my 2.0

In the coming days, I'll be tearing into my spare 2.0 getting it ready to swap with my overworked engine that currently has 190+k on it *yikes*.

This will be my FIRST rebuild, I just need some tips, and maybe some mods to increase life/power etc. I want to use the stock cams, rods, etc.

All gaskets will be new, water pump, timing belt (I think the kit comes with the hydraulic tensioner as well), new pistons, rod and crank bearings, oil pump, and a few other things.

The engine had a tick/knock, just like my current engine but not as bad. I'm wondering what can I do to avoid this happening after I put a few miles on this engine when it's done? Is it an oil issue...or a cylinder issue?

Things I might do:
1) Hone cylinders out if walls are scoured.
2) Port and polish head to match intake and hopefully match for up and coming OBX long tube headers.
3) I might try and increase the size of some of the oil ports to increase flow...I'm going to look into this before I do it.
4) Replace any lifters that have worn *thingers* (forgot what they are called)

For some reason I just noticed that the kit I'm looking at is for 99...

I thought these engines were pretty much the same, does anyone know the difference between a 99 and a 00 2.0?

That is...if there is any, other then the obvious snorkel and whatnot...I mean differences in the motor itself.

Ya, but for 3 times the price...I don't see any real differences between the 99 and 00

Ah, I see. Must be something for that much of a price difference?

Actually it comes down to who sells it...it's like there is only a few sellers selling parts for the 00+ but a million selling the 96-99 stuff. I'm trying to explain to them the only real diff is the exhaust doughnut, valve cover gasket, and the timing belt tensioner.

And there are no complete rebuild kits for 00+ from the same sellers, only from the more expensive brand name companies...and that's why it's more expensive. Even when I add up the prices to make a similar kit with seperate Ebay sales...shipping ends up being outrageous.
