my 2000 neon seems to be running lean. I pulled the plugs out and they were white as a sheet of paper. It also seems to be running a little rough at idle when in gear. As well under moderate acceleration and when out of gear reving the engine I can hear a knocking sound i believe it is spark knock. Any thoughts on how to resolve this situation?

 

how long has it been since u had changed the plugs and wires?

 

I am assuming they are the original plugs and wires. The car has around 69k on it.

 

i would start there honestly. not a bad thing to change plugs at least

 

For copper plugs, original or not, 69K is a bit long...
