Default great day

so my finace and i decided to take a break from workin on a friends truck and run to the convenience store for drinks and cigs. we pulled out of his driveway thru the car in second and heard a pow then somethin bounce down the bottom of the car and the car would no longer drive forward. got out walked to the end of the line of gear oil and found a large chunk of the differential layin in the middle of the road now i gotta find money so we can fix my car and hope that we only need to throw a new differential on and not replace the tranny too but for now i get to bum rides from people ... no fun but at least it broke on a quiet back road right in front of his house not on the busy highway

Sounds like you threw your differential pin, seems to be a common problem with front wheel drive vehicles. I have had this happen two times with my ford probe. Do your self a favor and pull the diff out of the trans you get and weld the differential pin in, that way you know it wont cause you problems later. Also if any "internal" piece is out of the trans it usually means a new trans is in order, as the trans case is probably shot.

That blows. Were you spinning the tires real hard or something? I wouldn't expect to throw the diff pin under normal driving.
