Default 2002 Neon Rear Brake check

I want to remove the rear drums to check the brakes... first time doing this on this car... I see to take the drum off you need to remove the wheel bearing. When I do this,,, is there any particular type of wheel bearing grease to use to repack the bearing... and what torque does the bearing nut get tightened to ??? Thanks....

160 ft lbs for the bearing retainer.
Standard bearing packing should due.

Rear bolts on the front LCA's need 170, lol. If you are going to get to the bearings, IMO, you should just buy some better grease. Wal-Mart has SuperTech high temp/high pressure/water-proof grease (the good stuff, the red stuff) for like $4.

Thanks for the info. But just want to confirm that you need to disassemble the wheel bearing to get the rear drum off to check the brakes and that the wheel bearing nut torque is a whooping 160 ft-lbf .... Finally have time to do this on Saturday ..... brakes make a loud squeaking noise when first using the car in the morning.... weird thing is after the first few stops,, noise stops.....

that noise is from condensation inside your drums. and you do not have to remove the wheel bearing's nut. you just need a good old fashioned hammer to do the job.

The drum can be removed without the hub. If the hub is removed re-torque it to 160 ft/lb. no bearing grease required as these are sealed bearings.
