ATX trans will not downshift on it's own.
Like the title says The trans will not downshift on its own and when I am approaching a stop sign the Van will shutter and sometimes stall. I know this is a Second gereration Neon list but it has the same 2.4 l and trans that comes in the caravan also.
I just did a tune up, trans fluid and filter change. what else should I look for?

well since no one answerd my question I went to a trans shop. When I got there the tech took it for a test drive and found that the trans was locking up too soon and also not unlocking. In order for the tech to determine if it was an electrical issue or mechicinal issue he unpluged a 2 prong wire that went into the trans and it still maintained it's shudder durring braking. which he then decided it was a mechinical issue either with the torque converter or "fluid going in the wrong place". The tech mentiond either way the trans has to come out.

How old is the fluid? Miles/time?

idk if its the same for 1gens and 2gens but if its auto there is a bolt that sits right under 2nd gen neons intake(under the battery for 1st gens) and supposedly if its not shifting right you turn it till its tight then back it out like 2 1/4 turns or so...see if that helps any search the 1gen forms i know i have seen this problem before

On another note: it was not the torque converter. I have replaced that and the problem still exists.
