Talking Over Cooling

.... i think. ok, this is my first winter with this car here, i've been living in Miami so far, so i'm just curious where does your temperature gauge stay while u're cruising on the highway while 33 and below outside....
so first of all, it takes forever to heat, althou i do have decent heat inside fast enough. but my gauge won't move at all. if i drive for a while, then stop for a minute or 2, it will go up to the second line, even higher, and it gets hot inside. but as soon as i hit the highway again, the gauge will go all the way down within 1 mile or so. i repeat, it's freezing cold outside. oh, and it does all that with more than half of the radiator(including my additional external oil and trans coolers) covered.
so it's probably a stuck opened thermostat (had it replaced about 1 1/2 years ago), which i will change. I'm just curious how your neons work on this kind of weather. appreciate all opinions, thanks NEON lovers

The 02 we have is to the bottom of the normal range within 5 minutes of starting in cold weather. It never goes below normal range even on the highway after it has warmed up. Probably stuck T-stat.

I drive about a mile or two down the road from a dead cold start and it gets to the 2nd line and stays there the entire time; no matter how warm or cold it is outside.

I installed a Mishimoto thermostat after my OEM one crapped out. I never see the needle rise above 2nd line.

I have seen my car take probably 10 minutes to heat up before when it was really cold, around 0 or below. Mine sits just below the second line (200 degree) when heated. Once the car has warmed up it doesn't matter if it is below zero or 100 degrees outside, it sits in the same spot.

so yes, my thermostat was stuck completely wide open. it was some crap 1 I got from AutoZone about 2 years ago. anyways, i got a Gates now, and indeed the car (engine) completely changed it's behaviour. warms up really fast, have plenty of heat inside, engine is better responsive, and if I hit the highway the gauge stays right below the second line (the first being the one above the blue zone). best 11$ ever spent on the Neon LOL
