Hey Neon fans. What is the best way to remove and install alternator on a 2001 neon, does anybody have a video or diagrams.

I will say, if you haven't done it before, it's a bitch. Just putting that out there so you are ready for it. Oh, and you will more than likely loose some flesh on your knuckles. Be prepared to spend some time figuring it out. I believe you can look up the procedure through Autozone's website. One thing that helped me was removing the pencil strut to have much more room to get the alternator in and out (you will have to realign the torque struts if you do this). If you don't, I guess you'd have to perform some sort of magic trick to get it out because it wasn't happening for me no matter where I tried to shove it.

 

just by physically looking at it, you know it will be hard, its hard to see from the hood, a squeeze from under.

Got it done . Alternator was removed up through the top. I'm going to give a step by step under a new thread within a couple of days. I didn't take any pics(wish i did), but I'll give it my best. It took me 2.5 hours to do, but now that I know I could do it in under 2, no problem. Stay tuned.
