What the hell!? Those were out of a Neon? Did it run? That's a serious case of "don't give a *#ck about car maintenance" there! Hope you got that thing cheap.

The funny thing about my plug that looked like that is that the guy said he had just changed the plugs before I bought the car. I took his word and then a year later (last week) is when I changed out the plugs and found those deposits.

BTW, I ended up getting the upfront o2 sensor changed out in Colorado Springs last night and cleared the Check engine light. The car ran great the whole trip back to Tooele Utah. I just got home an hour ago. Engine light never came back on and it is back to getting low 30's mpg!

Not out of a Neon, but it ran. It finally started giving out I'm assuming once the new plugs got like that. That SOB would burn through a quart in a 1/2 day probably. It's not like a rebuild wasn't going to be on the list. It's the original engine with probably at least 200,000 miles. Pretty much figuring at one point the engine overheated, and fried the back-end cylinder rings, and the new plugs and the whole tune up that was done was a band-aid.

I've decided that any cars that are bought now will either be within 10 years of the current year for fuel injection, or a carb'd engine. More to the whole story though...

Probably because it isn't coated with the garbage that the other one was. If your plugs are looking like that, the new O2 sensor is still only a band-aid if there really is something wrong with the internal engine.

My car has never burned oil and doens't produce any smoke or tell tale signs of oil being burned or leaked. It has 141k and I bought it with 110k.
