did u check the inside of the fuel pump. the plastic shroud that make the fule pump one hole part . you might have a broken inner part in side the pump and might be losing fuel psi. this will cause the car to start on the 3 turn of the ignition key. had this problem and drove crazy. i was ready to junk the car.

Try turning the key to acc position till the fuel pump shuts, turn it back off and try it a couple more times then try to start it.

IF that dosent work you might not be getting 12 volts back to your fuel pump

I just realized on my last post above. It really sounds like your crank shaft sensor could be going bad.

The way the safety features of electronically controlled engines are designed, if the cam sensor was bad then the engine controller reacts to that to protect against an engine fire by turning off the spark coil and the fuel pump. The shutdown is done by the automatic shutdown relay. It will however not happen until 1 second after the ignition key is moved from off to run or start. So if you weren't looking to hear the fuel pump run for that first second you may well have thought the fuel pump was the problem. The dark green/orange wire to the spark coil is the one from the ASD that carries the 12V for a second (and the dark green/white to the pump from the controller), then drops out unless you start cranking over the engine AND the there are signals from the cam and the crank sensor reaching the controller.

So it might be causing your fuel pump not to prime, except for a split second while cranking over. So the starting fluid gets the motor to start and when its running the fuel pump dose turn on.

Dose this make any sence??
