2000 Neon busted
New to the site and interested in your comments.
Problem: while driving down the road the lights dim and get brighter, locks go up and down, interior light flashes, alarm goes off for no reason, cannot lock the car now because the alarm will go off, interior light stays on, windows are slow going up or down.
2000 Plymouth Neon LX purchased new in 1999. 135,327 miles (all on the Oahu). Car has been sitting in the carport since February trying to figure out the next step.
One person says that it is the sensor..........Our independent mechanic said that there was a service bulletin put out regarding keyless entry module: alarm system inadvertent siren activation.
Dated 25 April 2003.
This bulletin involves replacing and configuring an alarm remote keyless entry module (ARKEM). Models 2000 to 2003. (PL) Neon. This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a thatcham alarm (sales code LSC). Symptom conditions: customer may describe inadvertent security alarm activation or security alarm activates for no apparent reason, can happen at any time. If this condition can be duplicated or customer describes this condition, perform the repair procedure.
Any other suggestions? We had the ignition replaced earlier this year, I think the tumblers just wore out.

But seriously now [sm=happybounce.gif]
I would look at what the bulletin is talking about. Sounds like your problem
Ya I would check out that TSB. It sounds like you might be on the right track with that. I've never heard of the tumblers wearing out on an ignition so early. That's a strange problem if you ask me.
Good luck and keep us posted!!
Oh, BTW, you still might want to repent and say a few Hail Mary's. Just in case.

Thanks for the quick replys. I'll have the bulletin side checked out. The car is used for a courier service and the ignition is cycled on/off 18+ stops per day average, 6 days per week so the numbers are outrageously high. That's why there's so many miles (Oahu isn't that big). Normal annual mileage for the island is 6k per year, we do 30K plus. I'll keep checking the site.
that sounds like the problem you should be able to check your equipment yourself. your module sits under the top part of your dash right in front of the defrost vent.....just pull that off and look at the type of module........also if you are the sole owner of your car you should be able to call your dealer and give the your vin and they can look it up and tell you what you have.
