ok so i called my buddy the night before we were gonna make the deal and he tells me his dad sold them to a guy like a week ago and never told him...fml. so now im buying a set of srt4 rims and decent tires for 400 from a guy in Cleveland. does anyone know what the stock tire size is on an srt4? and will i have any problems if they are bigger than the 205 40 17 you recommend?

The SRTs have different strut perches so they can run bigger tires. If you have stock non-SRT struts, you will have problems. Stay with that size max with stock struts.

I don't think they'd fit or everyone wouldn't suggest a smaller size. I say play it safe and go with what size everyone is saying to.

Would you have to switch both front and rear struts to SRT-4 ones to get 215/45-50/17s to work? Or could a set of coilovers open up some space between the struts and tires? I have a set of winter tires on some 17" wheels from another car that was 5x100 and I think they're 215/50/17s. And it actually could be more logical to buy coils at this point since the car has ~95k on it anyhow - rather than buying new winter tires.

With coilovers, you can fit like 18" or 19" wheels actually. However, they cost much more new than struts and springs. If you can afford them and use the car for some corner carving, it wouldn't hurt one bit.
