You'll have to find out if the locksmith can clone the key first.. Most Locksmiths in my area can't because they mainly deal with businesses and homes. They shy away from cars because they are a huge liability.
At cost to me I can get a blank for ~35 bucks. But a cloner costs upwards of 2500 bucks.
Local Dodge Dealership would charge me 75 for cut blank, and re-program.
For the guy that has the battery in the keyhead. I feel for ya when that battery dies, because once it's dead that key is almost useless. Then you have to pay and get it re-programmed. The locksmith that sold that to you should be flogged, cause I wouldn't have.

AFAIK, dealers are required to give you two sets of keys when you buy a new car.

They are supposed to give you two sets. I suppose if they only give you one, and you don't say anything, SOL.
