Red face Fog light electrical

2004 Dodge Neon SXT manual SOHC

Found out today that the fuse for my fog lights is blown, and figured that was the key to fixing my fog light problem!

Turns out it wasn't the only problem....

So the set of wires that plug into the bulbs themselves is horribly damaged.. There are 3 plugs, 2 go to the bulbs, one goes to another wire, and that wire runs to some place into the depths of this oh-so-cramped-engine. Someone had wrapped electrical tape around the wires by the connector, not the 2 that connect to the bulbs but the other one, and the electrical tape got so hot that it melted into crud as hard as a rock. while working at it, trying to cut the tape back, the wire was bent and twisted so many times that it finally broke loose. long story short im 80% sure the whole thing is toast...

To sum it up, i think i need new fog light cables. Would anyone know how much this cable would cost me? and where to find it? im trying to avoid making a trip to the dealer (a good hours drive away) to have them charge me $300 for something i could find on ebay for $20....

Description of the cable?
A mess of wires that has 3 ends, two connect to the fog light bulbs, and go into the fog light things that sit on the front bumper. The third plug connects to another cable that goes up into the engine.

I couldn't find the actual name for this part either, so I apologize for not having a direct name or part number. It seems non-existent according to google..

Thank you greatly for any, and all feedback.

I was trying to sort that whole story out...can you not just cut the factory wire back to good wire, and then connect a new piece to the fog light?

sorry if i wasnt clear with my description, i was trying to do my best but it was a little hard to explain. i just took some pictures to better help the situation.

the first picture just shows the whole cable. the two ends connect to the fog light bulbs, while the plug in the middle connects to another cable.

the second picture shows

............... please excuse me while i set this laptop on fire :]

i'll finish this later when i find a REAL computer...

i was having better luck with my ipod touch..

... continued:

so here are the photos

this one shows the whole cable itself. yes, we have a carpeted garage..

this photo shows the damage i've done the clump of black crud to the left is the electrical tape on the end of the wire. its rock solid... to the right is the plug. the bottom of it where the 2 wires connect. now you can see that one wire is perfectly fine, but the other broke off, and the wire left inside the plug is too short to pull out or connect to anything that will stay in place. (just the silver dot to the right) this is where the real damage took place..

And this last photo shows the 3 plugs i was talking about. the two with color connect to the bulbs, and the solid black plug connects to another cable that goes up somewhere into the engine.

what im asking for is, correction: what im begging you for is to tell me that there is either really a way to fix this, or that replacing the whole cable is affordable! i think my car is ready for a new timing belt, and i don't know how much thats going to cost me yet. momma says she thinks its expensive :/ then again, momma claims 8 dollar basketball shorts at walmart are expensive.. she would rather use that money to go on her monthly vacation somewhere coastal... hah.

You should be able to pull the connector pin out and put a new wire in, I'd think. If it wasn't that bad to get out, run to pick-n-pull and get one off of another car?
