ok i did a compression test i am unsure if the compressions suppose to slowly drop because 3 of them went high then went down slowly, 1 on the other hand held no compression at all

Sounds like a bad compression testing gauge, for starters. The gauge will hold the highest reading until you release the built-up pressure. Well, it's supposed to...

You already know there is a problem. A compression test isn't going to tell you anything new. Something broke internally and the engine will have to come apart to fix it.

it will only tell you what cylinders you need worry about
the gague should hold the maximum pressure till u release it

the cylinder with no pressure is the one with the bent valve(s)
start pulling off the head

If you replace the whole head instead of performing valve jobs, it doesn't matter which one it is. I suppose it would help if the chosen method of repair was said.

That's what I was saying. They are not supposed to drop. Your tester is worn/broken. It doesn't matter at this point. The head still has to come off no matter what cylinder has no compression. Take the head off and get going!

That's pretty normal as the pistons work in pairs. Try turning the cam to see what happens....

While you have the head off, take it to a machine shop for resurfacing and a check-up. Better safe than sorry.

remove the cams
then all valves "should" be closed
turn head upside down and fill combustion chambers with varsol
whatever combustion chamber doesnt hold liquid has the bent valves
thats if the gap between valve and seat isnt obvious

or you could just look at the pistions they should tell you where they hit

prices here are much different
whole engines are from about 400 and up
heads are about 200 and up
valves about 15 bucks each and your only going to need a couple
and the spring compressor can be rented for a few bucks.

I wish I knew a place to get heads at 30 dollars, its almost worth buying them to strip them down for aluminum scrap at that price

who knows what type of condition the junkyard head is in?
