Electric Fan question
My 02 neon es electric fan turns on and off compulsively when the AC is running. The fan comes on for 5 seconds then it turns off for 10 seconds, then it comes on for 5 seconds and so on. What gives? I'm not sure if it's directly related to an AC leak causing the ac clutch to turn on and off often. Any ideas?
Thanks

does your A/C work? How do you know u have a leak?
the cycling of the fan is normal when the A/C is on as extra BTU's need to be removed from the cooliing system
Most importanly is the car overheating? conversely is the car running too cool?

Thanks for your reply. The car is not overheating or over cooling. The AC is nice and cold but it used to have a leak that I rigged myself by changing the leaking low pressure valve. I don't know if it still leaks somewhere else but the AC is cold as of right now and works fine. I was suspecting an electrical sensor to be at fault for the constant on off electric fan when the ac is running. Whichever sensor it is that signals the fan to come one and off would make sense to be faulty. It doesn't stay on for more than 10 seconds then it shuts off and repeat every 5 to 10 seconds. Again, this is only when the ac is on. I understand there are two electric fans and one is designated for the AC.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

well fan operation is controlled by PCM
u will need access to a scanner to see why the PCM wants to turn the fan on/off
the things the PCM uses to make ths decision are: Coolant temp, Vehicle speed, and A/C demand.
Is the A/C clutch cycling alot?

the cycling of the clutch would be more related to a low charge of refrigereant, causing the low pressure switch to cut out the engagemnt. conversely it could also be overcharged and the high pressure switch is causing the cut out.
get a set of gagues on that A/C and see where it is
