Piston slap, as soon as it get's really cold most Neons do it. Don't be too concerned as long as it goes away within a minute or so.

the really weierd noise goes away in under min, but the ticking/ knocking noise goes away after 5- 10 min of running, i let it warm up for about 20 min before i drive it

My car absolutely HATES cold starts. It makes about 4 different noises when it's started below like 10 degrees.

Go with a 5W20. It'll be better for the cold weather.

yah it is hard to keep changing the oil based on the weather where i live, one day its 65 degrees and the next morning its -10, then the next day its 55 degrees, it crazy weather, with all my other cars i usually run 10w-30 year round, plus my car is stored inside a heated garage
