Performance Mods
Hi my name is Brad. I recently bought a 2004 Dodge Neon R/T and i love it. I already have an exhaust on it and msd plugs and wires. I also have 17" rims, lowering spring, sway bar, and recently put a grill in my bumper. But i'm looking for more power. I talked to some people about headers and air intakes. Air intakes seem alright but some people don't think headers are what there all cracked up to be because of gasket leaks. I was wondering if anyone has put pacesetter headers on a 2004 dodge neon and how did it turn out? Also if there are any suggestions on how to get more power besides a turbo please let me know. Thank you
I have al the engine mods you can put in a sxt other than a turbo and megasquirt. I have the pacesetter headers in my 04 sxt and they are awesome and no leaking for me. I also have the rare throttle body that modern use to sell and I also have a indy manifold and under drive pulley and cam gears. I will get out my list of what I all have . My sxt is getting over 150hp or more with all the mods but with an r/t youll get alot more .
the people who hve said that headers aren't what they're made out to be either have never had them or didn't take care of them. I've had headers on every hot rod I've owned. 8 Mustangs, 1 F-150, and 1 El Camino. The only one I had problem with was the El Camino and with that one I take blame for that one. I used cheap bolts and cheap gaskets when it was bolted on. If you're worried about gasket leaks (which was what I had) You can buy locking bolts so they don't come loose through vibrations. Ceramic disipates heat better than the good looking chrome ones. Besides the chrome ones change color because of heat. They do add some hp & torque. As soon as I return from the Philippines my car is in for a full make over between engine and body mods.
I have a set of pacesetter headers. There black and they are ceramic. I'm getting a garage i know to make me a gasket that will last and im getting those locking bolts. The exhaust on my car is pretty loud now. Do either of you know how much the headers will change the sound of my car?
On all my mustangs the cars got a little bit louder but nothing you would complain about they became a bit throatier. On my El Camino I did the exhaust at the same time and the car actually became quieter .. Now on a 4 cyl. I have no idea ...

My 04 sxt sounds awesome the headers I got makes her sound a little different and deeper than before. Well worth it to get the better headers. I also have a borla plus glasspack so might be different with someone that doesnt have a glasspack.
The R/T already has a tubular header on it (Borla I've heard) so I really doubt you'll see much gain by going and putting another one on it, unless you go with a longtube. I doube checked mine today to verify. It's hard to see with the heat shield on there, but I could definately see that it was tubular steel piping and not a log.
I also don't see getting much power gain out of your '04 because of the whole NGC thing, which seems to offset these kinds of mods on the '03+ cars. Having an '02 I'm not sure how much it does effect mods though. Anyone else?

I actually got around the computer thing my husband tuned it so it would work nicely with all the engine mods hey at least shes alot better than stock for speed . Im going to be doing the srt swap pretty soon though with a stage3 kit so will be looking at 300 plus hp out of the new turbo setup.
