Default trans fluid question

what if atf+4 isn't used in one of these transmissions?

u might get away with those Multi-Vehicle ATF. But if you Put in like Dexron fluid in there, problems.

That's more what I was thinking was being asked...

There are a few multi-vehicle fluids that state they meet the ATF+4 requirements.

Really? Huh, I guess we've been lucky cuz my dad has been running dexron in all his chryslers and hasn't had a failure yet. (2000 B3500 310,000 miles, 1994 Concorde 220,000 miles, 1994 Caravan 156,000 miles, 1999 T&C 258,000 miles). I've put Dexron in my 1995 Stratus when I fixed the broken overdrive hub. It's working great. I sold the car to my GF parents and they are loving it. And my 2001 PT cruiser has Dexron in it with 181,000 miles.

so in all reality it doesn't matter if i use the $5 atf+4 or $4 atf?

Wal-Mart has certified ATF+4 (SuperTech) for under $4 qt; Napa brand (relabled Valvoline) ATF+4 is about the same price. If you don't want potential problems, don't cheap out over $1.

ok so changing the trans filter and filling it with +4 will be alright

ATF+4 is the recommended fluid. It should be just fine.
