Default 2001 Neon non-functioning Air Conditioner

My mother took her 2001 Neon to get her air conditioning repaired. She was told it was the computer but as I look at the schematics is seems the only part that routes throuth the computer is compresser pressure and fan sensor. They want $250-$300 labor to remove and replace computer plus another $275 to rebuild the computer.

Is this normal or does the computer just tell you when the pressure is too low or high?

I do beleive she is being taken advantage of, the final repair has not been authorized yet so a quick answer would be fantastic.

Thanks,
Clayton

I wouldn't authorize that either. $300 to remove the computer? It takes about 5 minutes to get to. Remove the air box and there it is. Have they checked/tested the relay(s)?

Follow up ? I have a similar problem but worse. Paid $660 for new AC "kit" and still have very minimal AC, been told it is the computer now. Great diagnostics, huh ?(that was $25 of the bill !) See that on-line you can get a PCM for $225 prgrammed to your VIN, guess I'll have to try it. Would've been better served using these $$ and car as trade.
