Default 2000 fuel pump?

I need to replace a fuel pump on a 2000 dodge neon, i got the car up on jacks and found what looks like a pump on the side of the tank. its got a locker ring around it, a fuel line, vacuum line ad electrical lines running from it. It has everything that a fuel pump needs, buts its on the lower side of the tank and not directly on top of it. this seems really odd to me. any help would be appreciated? Thanks

Why do you think that the fuel pump must be sitting vertical in the middle of the gas tank? That's the pump though.

that seems odd to me too because i'm used to the pump and the sending unit being together on top of the tank.

dont complain this allows you to change the pump without dropping the tank
