Awesomeness. Thank you SO much for the info. Are the lights small bulbs like the 194's used in the PRNDL?... or something else? And, can you possibly refer to any pages in any of the .pdf's I downloaded from your links?

Thanks again!

Yes, 194's as well. Instrument cluster removal is 8J- Instrumentation, starting on the end of page 3.

Excellent. And thanks for providing a little more detail regarding the removal of the parts involved, because the manual's description leaves a lot out. Sure wish there were some more illustrations (like they provided for the actual cluster removal), but I'm assuming taking off the cluster bezel will be obvious?

The bezel just pops off. When you go and put it back on, make sure you get the center "pin" lined up to the hole in the cluster. You'll understand when you remove it.

very cool. thanks!!

okay, now for a totally off-tangent question. Wouldn't the `03 - `05 Neons be considered a "3rd" generation? I realize the general sheetmetal is the same from an `02 to an `03, but there is a fair amount of physical differences. e.g. front & rear fascias, headlights/taillights, trunk, etc.

No. A generation of car is usually determined by major changes to the car...frame and body and interior are the main two.

Look at a '95-'99 Neon compared to a '00-'05 Neon. That's a generational difference. Changing the shape of headlights and taillights isn't something that makes a car something new than the one before. That is the only reason the front and rear bumpers are slightly different. Nothing about the trunk, interior, body or overall car changed majorly.

I see what you're saying and that makes sense. So, the `02 to `03 change was more of a "facelift" then.

OH... and by the way, I finally got beneath my car and learned that both the lower control arm bushings AND sway bar link bushings were really compressed and worn out. I had the local Belle Tire put brand new Moog control arms and sway bar links on. Including install, parts and alignment...the total was $518, so I just let them do it. I honestly do enjoy wrenching on my own cars, but this was a good price and I'm swamped at work right now.
