Finally got my lower torque strut in, on my way out to the garage now. The dr side mount is on the way so it should be here by tonite. Passenger side center mount may be crap too. I'll see soon enough won't I!

Default trans mount hole egged

Hi there, my sons 03 neon has very noisy clunks in alot a places on every bumb. I pulled the battery and removed the trans mount. The aluminum center where the long bolt goes through is egg shaped. Would this be some of the clunking. Can a guy drill out the hole and then put a spacer/bushing around the bolt...really don't want to stick in a $150 part for a clunk sound that the loud music he plays covers up

Are you sure it is the mount, and not a worn suspension component?

Yeah..directly under the battery..has 4 bolts that attach it to the tranny..and one long 18mm bolt behind the tire..got it out with out removing the battery shelf support..bent it out of my way..the aluminum center of the tran mount is very egg shaped..i'm thinking that there is some clunking there..im thinking the other mount on the other side is clunking also..that one looks difficult to replace..ever do that one? car has 131k and has some door rust and some bumber cracks..kid uses it for school..has new front struts..ive read quite a few threads here on the clunks of the neon..how bout my idea of drilling it out and sliding a bushing over the bolt to take up the slack

I've just never heard of one clunking from a bad mount, and no, I've never actually replaced the motor mount myself. It is a pain to do.

I personally wouldn't...rig the mount up like that. To each their own.

Default Keep having to replace mounts

My mechanic has replaced my motor mounts at least three times. I don't know if it is because of the terrible Ca. highways, seems they all have horrendous potholes. I do a lot of driving and have about 310,000 on my '03. I understand with those kind of miles they will need changing, but it just seems like every time I turn around they need replacing. What is the problem here?

Default maybe I am crazy

But I was at the junk yard yesterday I saw 2 mounts in the wheel welds and 2 struts as well as 1 underneath. That makes 5 isn't it?
