hey i went for an oil change and they said i needed a new air filter...so i took my out intake filter and tightened it up and put it on....will that be ok....since its just the filter and not the rest??

I think he means that he put the filter on but not the tube running to it. If that's what he's saying then that's not really a good idea, and the filter isn't doing anything because there's no tube running to it lol.

Still do not understand. Did you put a different filter in or did you just move to a different place??? If you had an intake and the filter was dirty and it is cleanable like K&N then clean and reinstall. If you installed a stock air filter in the mean time on your intake and it fit fine the that will work. But If you removed an intake and reinstalled the stock air box with your dirty filter what are you thinking. The dirty air filter is still there!
