cleaning engine bay
Hello everyone. New to posting on the forum, but I have been lurking for a month or so. I have been fixing up my neon after it got hit one night by a hit and run driver. I said in the introduction thread that I didn't realize how much I cared about my car until the morning I saw it and was mad.
Anyway, I was wondering about cleaning the engine up. I changed the oil, plugs and wires, and I just noticed how greasy and dirty it is in there. I was wondering if anyone had any tips. Should I use and engine degreaser, power wash it or what. I don't want to mess anything up, so I might just take a rag to it. Thanks for the info ahead of time.

I wash mine regularly on all my cars. Use an APC and a brush, scrub and rinse with low pressure. Mine are pretty clean at all times, so it's easy just to maintain it. If it's bad, replace the APC with a degreaser.
some carwashes have a engine cleaning setting, the one down the street from my house does and that is what I use, i do it about every month cause its really dusty and windy here (live in the desert), but like he said if its bad use a degreaser, when i first did mine i went to wal-mart bought some special cleaning brushes (called a cone brush and a tire brush) to get in the tight little spaces, but for the most part i just shot some purple power degreaser all over everything let it sit a few min then sprayed off and it got most off it then i just detailed it with the brush's, now my engine bay looks like it did when it came off the show room floor (that was a joke dont think they ever put a sxt on a show room floor)
