ohkay, so after soem more testing and tinkering... my friends and i thought of some other things i figured i'd ask about, my gas cap was stolen the other night, before all this happened... and i put a locking one from walmart on, do i need a special fuel cap to have the correct pressure and venting?

now sitting in park or neutral, with the car running, if u slowely try and hit the throttle, it will rev up like normal, but if u step on it quickly it will spit and stutter, as my friend said it acts like the fuel filter is plugged up or even the pressure regulator, which is why its not getting the quick bursts of fuel when hitting the throttle quickly...

i am running good pressure at the rail tho, idk what the pressure specs are for at the rail tho

does this sound right?

the walmart cap if improper fittment will throw an evap code and shouldnt cause any driveability issues,

lol how do u know u have good pressure if u dont know what the specs are?
53-63psi BTW

id be hunting down that missfire, what was number #3's pressure?
again lean condition, maybe number 3 injector is whats causing your miss?
is #3 plug saturated with oil?

funny thing with fuel you just dont need pressure you also need volume
filter and reg are all in one so if u change one u change em both

quick way to test reg,
run car, shut car off, wait about 10-15 mins and press on schrader on fuel rail, if pressure still exists reg is working.
actually should hold pressure for a pretty long time

That was actually an early misprint by Dodge. The filter can in fact be changed separately. I meant to do it this summer, but got busy with other things.

all the research i have found is the filter is part of the pump and cant be changed separately (and u cant find it at the parts stores..) but i did find a website that sells just the filter, so how hard is it to change that? without changing the entire pump...

the other thing i have found online is the regulator is behind the engine passenger side ( trace the line from the fuel rail back and its there. i havent been out to find it yet, but thats what i was told)

the cylinder 3 i know is due to compression issues,, i know injectors fire plugs wires are all good and new and not fouled or oily or dirty.. and that im trying to put off until late September when i get my college money... but as i said b4 i could atleast drive the car..

as for the fuel pressure i was reading at 50 i think (my mechanic friend said that sounds right and good)

i shall be out to test the regulator when i get home from work...

I've heard it only takes about 15 minutes to change. I have not changed it myself, but know others who have.

well i drove the car down the block (needed to get groceries) and got home let it sit for 20 minutes or so and hit the valve on the rail, some fuel came out, but it didnt "squirt" like it had much pressure... so im going to look into getting one as well as a fuel filter for now and see if it helps,

I just wanted to say thanks again,

i shall post back when i get the cash to get this done and get it changed...

I really want to change my filter just because. 130K, contrary to Dodge's belief to it being "lifetime," is way too much IMO.

ohkay... so now i do have the car running again, i first got a regulator and changed it out (on the pump) and that didnt fix it so i went ahead and bought a brand new pump on rockauto.com, changed it out and it works great.... so my question is where is the filter actually located? and under the hood behind the passenger side of the engine where the fuel lines run up to the rail, there is a little l shaped piece with like a round bowl on the bottom in between the lines from the pump and the line that runs to the rail, what is this thing... i pulled it off and even googled the brand and numbers i found it bringing nothing up...

here is a picture of this thing off the car... in the picture is how it sits, the line from the tank/pump comes into the side of it then the line facing upward is where the hose runs to the fuel rail...
