Default neon won't turn off

A friend of mine has a 2001 neon and when she tries to turn it off the engine keeps running.
Now sometimes when it shuts off it starts right back up. Any ideas what could cause this?

That sounds like a serious problem, I would start with the key switch. That is gonna be a fun one, start eliminating things, there are a lot of things it could be

That sounds like a bad problem... maybe w/ the ignition, timing , and possibly huge amounts of carbon deposits on the valves...to where they are sticking open on shutoff. Does it do a lot of back firing or does it hiccup? How bout timing belt? When was the last time it was changed? How many miles does the car have? WHat motor does this 01 have? Is her ignition switch bad? Are the Ignition wires connections frayed or possibly crimped? Just a few questions to ask.
