Default water in transmission??

The ATF was mixing with my coolant in my radiator-evidence=milky pink fluid in the radiator. Took it to the mechanic to put in a new transmission cooler (outside of the radiator). He told me that there is water in my transmission and it needs to be taken out and worked on to correct any damage done by the water. Before I took it to the mechanic there was no evidence on the dip stick of water in the ATF. The fluid looked perfectly normal.

Is it possible for the ATF to get into the radiator but the water(coolant) not get into the transmission? I know the pressure in the tranny is higher than the radiator so it seems possible to me.

Thank you for your help.

Yes, that is possible. I'd change the transmission fluid and filter, just to make double sure though. $40 for fluid and a filter is better to be 100% sure than $3,000 later by not double checking IMO.
