To fix or not to fix?
Hi neon community.
I just picked up a 2001 2.0 16valve chrysler neon for $150.00 I really have no interest in keeping this car as I already own two other vehicles. What I do know is wrong with car is that the interior is covered in mold. Not sure if the owner left the windows down or if the sun roof leaks. Could be a combination of both.
Also the engine is throwing a code P071, and is very rough on start up. It will drive but feels like the fuel pump is not giving enough fuel.
From your experience is this vehicle worth putting $ into to sell or should I part it out in hopes I can make something off it?
I am not a Mechanic but I can take things apart and put them back together with little or no research required.
One other thing to mention is that the owner said there was a new transmission in it. I have no idea on how to tell if there is or not. The car has 350000kms on it.

If you're going the route of trying to sell it as a race car, yes. If someone is going to use it for that purpose, all carpeting throughout the whole car has to be removed. You could also pull all the carpet out and buy a couple cans of rubberized undercoating and spray the floor pan down with that. Relatively cheap and easy stuff to clean off when it gets dirty. Either way, nobody is going to want to buy a car with a moldy interior.

You can clean almost anything if you want to put in the work to do it. It may look a bit more worn when you finish, but it'll clean. I agree with tearing the carpets out, though. New carpet isn't that expensive (considering you've got a buck and a half in the car), and you'd spend an extra few hours at least, trying to clean it. Plus, if the carpet's out, it'll be a good chance to clean everything under it so the mildew stink is easier to get rid of.
It still would be hard to make a profit, these cars go for around $500 - $1000 here and have half the kms. I am still uncertain of what path I should take, if I scrap it right now it would be only $225 + $40 for the rims. + any parts that I can salvage. If I buy new stuff for it and fix it, it may cost a few hundred and end up with the same results as in profit. Thanks for the input!
