2003 Neon - Vibration and Squealing
Thats cool you got the key code thingy down, it helps a ton. Cam, crankshaft, and oil sensor seem to go bad and are easy to r&r thank fully then you just pull them pcm fuse to reset it all once your done. Your evap issue can also be the gas cap, I switched mine out with my hemi truck and it stopped throwing the code in the neon, but never in the hemi lol
That turkey sound is a bearing going out, either in the idler pulley for the belts, (check that 1st) or the timing belt tensioner pully, or the water pump bearing. Mine made that sound and was the water pump bearing going out, but only slightly dripped antifreeze every 20+ minutes, and the impeller grinding on the housing made that weird noise liek you mentioned at shutoff. It was easy to fix, rockauto.com sells a timing kit with pump and new style tensioner.
(if you don't know if it's ever been done pull the timing belt cover and inspect the belt, if it looks shiny, cracks anywhere, or fraying it's time to replace it, it's cheap too about 120.00 to do it yourself and use/rent the harmonic balance puller)
Neons are good cars, easy to fix, parts are cheap too... Many Many Thanks to this site and neons.org I've been able to fix both of my dodges better then the dealership, @ 1/4 of the price!
My teenage daughter has put 100k on hers in less then 2 years... crazy I know O.o
But once you get the lil nick nack repairs done it holds up for a really long time and beats a $350.00 month car payment if you add the numbers up. And I'm a cheap *** Dad when it comes to paying the dealership, I'd rather fix it and buy good beer
