Got the head and every thing back to gether and my car over heated again....I checked the water pump and the impeller looked fine but can it still be bad? The upper radiator hose becomes rock solid I don't know what else to do .

 

is the thermostat in the right direction? The sensing part of the thermostat has to be toward the engine.
