My 2000 Neon makes a popping noise as soon as I accelerate. This usually happens if I'm sitting on a hill and I have to come to a stop. The popping sounds like it is coming from the front and it doesn't make a popping sound when I turn the wheel.

 

Check ur motor mounts and torque strut mounts. Mine did the same and I replaced all 4 and went away
