I have a 2002 neon and I need a new tranny (automatic) and for some reason I cant get a straight answer as to a 2005 neon tranny fitting? does anyone know if that would work??

 

It will fit and should work, however, the 2002 transmission is unique to that year.

 

how is it unique? Im not able to find a tranny from a 02 and would rather go newer if possible...?

 

The 2002 has a 41TE, which is a stronger version of the 2003-2005 40TE. The 40TE should work, it just won't be as "strong" internally. They are both an A604 Electronic 4-Speed. I'd go with the newest one you can find, simply because they update the solenoid packs as time goes on. You might want to consider having a TCM flash/update done just to make sure everything in the computer is kosher with the newer transmission.
