I feel like an absolute idiot...bought a used Neon from a friend's car lot. Then the trouble begins...leaking around windshield..headliner coming down...worst problem when looking under the hood the engine is not bolted to anything. It is really just sitting in there. Now we have clunking and grinding on acceleration and when slowing down to a stop. Other things not as worrisome but I bought the car "As Is" and now am stuck with the biggest lemon from the lot. Any idea what the clunking/grinding is? From what I've read here seems like it probably has something to do with the motor just sitting under the hood. Help please?

 

The clunking and grinding is probably from the engine not being supported. You need to get some mounts in there...and find new friends by the sound of it.

 

Thank you for the confirmation darthroush. Any idea if this is an expensive job? You are right about finding new friends..this car dealer "friend" hasn't spoken to me in months. Imagine that!

 

Expensive...for a shop to do? Yeah, it'll cost you a few hundred.
