Default Mysterious radio behavior

I have an interesting issue with my radio. It's a "plain Jane" AM/FM with cassette and 3 band EQ.
If the air temperature is below about 45 degrees, it powers up and works great.
Above 45, the display is blank and the 3 EQ band lights flash regardless of key position (including removed).

I'm wondering if I got the "lucky" radio, or if anyone else has seen behavior similar to mine. I searched the forum and drew a blank.

As I see it, my options include opening it up searching for a bad solder joint or component, replacing it with a similar unit (not likely) or going aftermarket. The aftermarket option would need to be a low dollar approach - maybe a used radio off someone for cheap.

Any info on kits for aftermarket installation would be great. I do have an AM/FM/CD with a removable face plate, but I can't see how it would fit without some sort of custom fit backer plate to fill the voids between the radio and dash.

Thanks.
Joe

Install kits for aftermarket radios are like $20. A wiring harness that makes that whole bit easy is around $6 I think.

That qualifies as "dirt cheap".

Tunes to follow!

Thanks!

hes right even in canada. the wiring harness is like 10 bucks the antenna adapter is 10 and the dash kit is like 20....and all you do is match up the wires... the only thing you gotta worry about a ground. 2000-02 you have to ground yourself. newer than that has the ground built into the factory harness.... or so ive found.. and ive owned both :P

Oh yeah, the antenna adapter. I found mine on eBay for like $5. Took a week to get here, but hey, it was only $5.
