2002 dodge neon surging Idle
was driving my car today and noticed while sitting at a light that it started surging pretty bad but from what I noticed it only does it while the A/C is running as soon as I turn the A/C off it stops. I've had the car for about 3 years now and always kept up on the maintenance. It takes atleast a good minute or so of sitting for it to start surging and once it does it starts blowing hot air but as soon as i start moving again the A/C gets cold again and the surging stops. I need to get this thing fixed ASAP I live in Vegas and were already hitting 97 degrees!!!
Have the A/C checked for leaks in the system. A drop in refrigerant pressure will reduce system performance and cause problems like what you are seeing. An older car like yours (mine is '01) can lose refrigerant over time and be recharged (easy process) if there are no major leaks.
