Default After minor fender bender

I did a search for my problem on this site in general and this forum in particular trying to find information that might help me. My daughter has been using my 2004 Neon SXT lately and had a minor accident with it today.

It stopped running and will not turn over. The air bag did not deploy.

My wife and I are 1000 miles away just now visiting my wife's sister and family so I can't just go out and fix the car.

I found some information about removing the battery cable to reset the computer but that did not seem to work.

I know its a shot in the dark here but does anyone have any ideas what to try next?

So,... while I was still in Tennessee the insurance folks authorized having the Neon to be towed to the local Dodge
dealer where some more investigation was done.

It turns out that there is an electronics package inside the drivers side fender that was damaged. This put the cost of repair up to around $900.00 more than what the vehicle is worth.

The insurance company will not allow me to pay the difference. According to Illinois state law on this the car has to be sold as scrap. I can not just buy it from the insurance company. If I want a shot at it I have to go to the junk car auction where it will be sold.

That's not good. $900 to fix it and be done? What's the insurance co valuing the car at? I'm not going to check it out, but I would assume if the car is decent shape, it would be valued somewhere around the $4k mark. I would look into this a little more if the car is in good shape.

No just $900.00 over the current value of the car. They are going to be paying right around $4000.00 in the payoff. We had full coverage insurance on the car.

We borrowed just a tad over $4000.00 against it a year or so ago so the payoff will almost pay off the loan. If it were not for the deductible that loan would be paid in full.

KBB lists the car in excellent shape as being worth $4080.00 the damage with the electronic thing comes to $4981.00 so it is considered a total loss.

They will not let me pay the $900.00 difference and keep the car because of Illinois state insurance laws. If the car was a 2002 or older I could, which makes no sense to me at all. You would think the state would want newer cars on the road.
