Default 2003 Manual shift **** just moves back and forth

My gear shift gave a slight pop while I was sitting in neutral. Now the shifter moves back and forth, but not side to side, and certainly not in any way that will put it in gear.

What broke? It's a standard, not an automatic.

sounds to me like the shift linkage bushings. take out center console (2 screws in the cup holders & 4 in the center storage part) and if i am correct the linkage will be disconnected from the shifter.
happened to me, i replaced the bushings shifter and trx side with booger bushings.
hope I helped.

That was it. Thanks. I'll have to order the bushings, but it looks like I can just snap it together and drive it until they get here.

It would probably benefit you to go ahead and order a set of 4 (Either booger bushings or ... i forget the other brand, sorry) 2 under shifter, 2 on trans. if you are in the same boat as me, you have none left what so ever on the transmission side.

I put the 2 on shifter side and could feel the improvement in shifting, even without any on the trx, but putting those 2 on tomorrow.

If you have no bushings left under the shifter, vise grips will be a good friend until you get the replacement bushings. Lol.

Glad I was able to help.
Also, pm me on here if you need any help w/ the installation, I will do my best to help ya out.
