Default STARTING PROBLEMS

I have a 2001 Neon RT. I am having problems starting the engine. It seems there is a problem with the anti-theft system. I think it has to do with the transponder in the the key or the module that reads the chip. Has anyone else seen this problem? I try to crank the engine and nothing happens. The gauges light up but nothing with the engine. If I keep turning the key on and off then it will start finally. Problem is intermittent. I have two keys and they both act the same way. I have 37K miles on the car. Does anybody have problems with the window switches? I have already had to replace my driver's door switch too.

Probably need to see a tech on that one. Have roll up windows so no electrical to compare here sorry. A check with the proper equipment could verify your concern or tell if it is something more mundane.

check your fuse box in the engine bay, make sure the fuse to the starter is good, better yet check with all of them, if thats not the problem, theres somthing wrong with either the theft device in your keys or in your ignition.

Do you have an auto or MTX???? If its a manual your clutch safety switch may be bad. One way to test it to.

MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS IN NEUTRAL WITH THE BRAKE ON

Hold the little button on the clutch in and turn the key.

another idea

turn your key on, leave it in the one position for about 20 seconds, you'll hear the normal seat belt chime then silence, then another bing, that means your sentry is working and you just managed to program the chip in your key

just some ideas

By the way if it's an auto, a sensor/safety switch on the tranny stops the car from starting in gear could be that too
