Default 05 to an 02 Engine/Tranny Swap

I have a 02 neon sxt with a 2.0 in it, I have went thru two transmissions in the last couple of months, not sure what caused it but both had the same malfunction. I have found an 05 Neon with a 2.0 that was wrecked.
Is it possible to do a complete motor/tranny swap from an 05 to my 02?
I am assume that it would be if I transfered over the ECM/TCM and wiring harness and maybe the instrument cluster. I can pick up the wrecked neon for what a used transmission cost. Any advice would be great...

thanks in advance

You would have to transfer everything electrical over except the gauge cluster if I'm correct.

so is it worth the effort? guess that is what I am looking for some insight on the trouble I will endure. I know by the time you get the tranny out not much more effort you can have the motor out. i have also read some where that the seal in the radiator that is between the tranny cooler and radiator go bad and start leaking coolant into the tranny slowly causing the tranny to fail, does that make sense to anyone? i have had two trannys fail identically. running down the hwy around 70 mph a sudden jerk is felt, dropped into 2nd on the first tranny and dropped out of over drive in the second, pulled for a little while longer and then just a grinding noise when shifted into any gear and when the motor is running and when i shift into neutral to push the car the car will not move. if i turn the engine off and place it in neutral i can push it any where i want to go. trying to figure out the quickest, cheapest way to get me back rolling and transmission seem to be a hot item because i am having trouble finding one clost to home.

You would find moisture in the trans fluid if that were the case. Either you melted something together, or the shift linkage needs adjusted. Did you put used trannys in? Did you reuse the TC? Each time the trans is changed, the cooler needs to be flushed. At the least it needs a filter, fluid, and inspection also. What fluid was used? Doing a trans is way easier then doing a full swap. We offer bench rebuilds if your near Iowa, then you can get one with a warranty. Also wouldn't hurt to scan for any trans codes.

i don't see signs of moisture in the trans fluid, it does however smell burnt. the first tranny was the orginial one and the second one was a used one and yes i did reuse the TC. i did flush the cooler but not the complete transmission. i used atf4 for the fluid. and i live in west tn so not real close to Iowa lol, but thanks. How do you adjust the shift linkage? could the linkage being out of adjust cause undo wear internally and led to failure? and for everyone that has added information so far i do greatly appreciate it.

Should be able to drop the pan and have someone shift it up top. Check the clicks, check for play, no movement and so on. Look around for metal shavings, pins, and clutch material. Some metal on the magnet is normal, if it looks like it has spiked hair on the magnet, usually more then normal and something gave out. Sounds like something came unhooked or missing a bracket on the shift linkage. Burnt smell means the clutches are usually burned. Sounds like you were on the right track, possibly just another bad trans. But I would drop the pan and check everything out before you jump into anything. Usually when we install used trannys we get the TC that was on the trans, and we install it with it. We don't usually flush used trannys unless the customer asks, but we always do the cooler flush and replace the TC.
